Pride and Prejudice (1995) Starring: Colin Firth, Jennifer Ehle, et al. Price: £15.99 "This five-hour adaptation of Pride and Prejudice was a massive success, getting the nation's ladies very excited by Colin Firth's Mr Darcy, no more so than when he appeared, in a scene not in the novel, in a wet shirt."

Sense And Sensibility [1995] Starring: Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, et al. Our Price: £5.99 "Emma Thompson scores a double bull's-eye with this marvellous adaptation of Jane Austen's novel . Not only does Thompson turn in a strong (and gently humorous) performance as Elinor Dashwood--the one with "sense"--she also wrote the witty, wise screenplay. Austen's tale of 19th-century manners and morals provides a large cast with a feast of possibilities, notably Kate Winslet, in her pre-Titanic flowering, as Thompson's deeply romantic sister, Marianne (the one with "sensibility")."

Hobson's Choice [1953] Starring: Charles Laughton, John Mills, et al. Price: £8.99 "A delightful working-class comedy from David Lean. Charles Laughton stars as the drunken, tyrannical Lancashire bootmaker brought to heel by his tough eldest daughter and her simple-minded husband after they open a rival shoe shop."

Marnie [1964] Starring: Tippi Hedren, Sean Connery, et al. Price: £9.99 "Tippi Hedren stars as the title character, a compulsive thief whose modus operandi is to land a secretarial job, bilk her employer of thousands, then change identity (and hair tone) before proceeding to the next scam. Sean Connery plays Mark Rutland, a wealthy businessman who finds Marnie's larcenous habits strangely erotic. He marries her and gradually sniffs out a repressed childhood trauma or two." This is my favourite Hitchcock film.
